Job Description Build Safety Assurance Lead (Safety Case) - Submarines Full Time (flexible working) Barrow-In-Furness / Hybrid (3 days a week in office) An exciting opportunity for a Build Safety Assurance Lead has arisen at the Dreadnought Alliance in Barrow. In April 2018 the MOD entered into a commercial alliance with key industry parties, BAE Systems and Rolls Royce and via the Dreadnought support systems team, Babcock International, to deliver Dreadnought to support CASD. Ultimately, the MOD owns the design of Dreadnought as only the Customer can truly accept the performance and safety risks associated with such a complex product and critical national mission. The Build-Safety Assurance Lead – Barrow-in-Furness will be the focal point for safety case activities at the shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness. What you will be doing The Build-Safety Assurance Lead – Barrow-in-Furness will be the focal point for safety case activities at the shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness. This involves the co-ordination and management of diverse stakeholders within industry and the Submarine Delivery Agency: They will be expected to advise on technical problem solving, coupled with appropriate management planning abilities to resolve complex engineering problems. They will define technical requirements, manage solution development and ensure compliance with those requirements. The post holder will be expected to deliver successful outcomes for the Dreadnought safety case in the build phase by using existing processes supported by a drive for continual improvement. The ability to conduct investigations and tactical reviews unsupervised is essential. The post holder shall manage safety assurance activities including, management of design change and concessions, and maintenance of design intent. Demonstrable in-depth technical experience of applying acquisition safety management tools and techniques in a complex engineering programme Industrial engineering background and experience (Mechanical/Marine, Civil or Naval Architecture are acceptable) Strong stakeholder and communication skills with the ability to influence decisions at all levels within MOD and Industrial Participants The ability to draw on evidence provided to form sound and proportionate engineering judgements on technical risk A Degree in a Science or Engineering subject, however, demonstration of relevant expertise gained through industrial experience will also be considered We are an equal opportunities employer.
