As a core part of our small but clinically diverse team of speech and language therapists and assistants, this role will primarily provide assessment, management, and therapy to a range of in-patients across all areas of our acute general hospital. In addition to traditional 'bedside' assessments, the postholder will be involved in objective assessment of swallowing using Videofluoroscopy and FEES, may be involved in the assessment of laryngeal function for designated patients using EELS, and, if business cases are successful, will be involved in developing the service use of EMST and Pharyngeal Electrical Stimulation (Phagenyx).
Dependent on the successful applicant's interests, there may be an opportunity to also have an out-patient session to develop additional clinical skills in a non-acute environment.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide specialist assessment and management to patients with a range of acquired disorders of communication/swallowing who are admitted to wards at Basildon Hospital.
2. Independently manage and differentially diagnose patients following assessment.
3. Work as part of the integrated MDT to provide best patient care and outcomes, and the delivery of joined-up care planning.
4. Provide therapy care plans which can be implemented by our clinical support workers.
5. Support the training and development of junior staff, assistants, and SALT students.
