Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to support with the coordination of care delivery within NUPAS Wolverhampton clinical services. The post holder will assist the Regional clinical lead to support and manage clinics to achieve group objectives and comply with corporate strategy, using the corporate framework to support the principle of the right of people to limit the size of their family.
Main duties of the job
To support with the management of the clinical team(s) on a daily basis in order to deliver the safe and effective care of patients.
To promote, support and deliver safe and efficient abortion and associated services in line with the Abortion Act 1967, Department of Health RSOPs, and medical guidelines across our acute day care treatment centres.
The postholder will support in the development of clinical practices in order to meet the requirements of national and local strategies and guidance.
The postholder will be experienced in providing appropriate family planning and sexual health care and provide leadership for the development of Nurse Led services.
The postholder will support the development of systems, processes, and procedures.
The postholder will work closely with the Clinical Lead/Manager to ensure there is a seamless patient-focused service ensuring that the experience provided to the patient simultaneously meets CQC regulations, NUPAS own excellent high standards and markets the service - encouraging growth.
The postholder will engage and support with the complaints and incidents processes as required.
The postholder will adhere to infection prevention and control standards and role model to all staff across the organisation.
The postholder will support the Clinical Lead/Manager by providing leadership and management, to the wider clinical team.

Leadership
1. Work with the Clinical Lead/Manager to support and develop Nurse Led Clinics, including workforce planning and educational development.
2. Support the developed training plans and identify training needs through the appraisal process. Work with the Clinical Lead/Manager to implement training programmes supporting staff to reach their full potential.
3. Undertake appraisals with identified team members and support the Clinical Lead/Manager with local HR processes as required. This may include return to work meetings following sickness and informal discussions in line with policy. Formal HR processes should be escalated to the Clinical Lead/Manager for management.
4. Undertake and support with revalidation.
5. Escalate concerns regarding staff performance and conduct to the Clinical Lead/Manager.
6. Act as a professional role model.
7. Ensure clear and concise documentation is kept and shared with the HR department regarding direct report line management, ensuring the Regional Clinical Lead is updated as required.
8. Support and engage in clinical supervision, ensuring the necessary documentation is kept up to date and accessible to the clinical team.
9. Ensure new staff are trained in line with competency assessment frameworks to support new roles and skills and ensure that all staff can provide a safe clinical service.
10. Provide hands-on clinical care and advice as appropriate. Coordinate teams to provide safe and operationally effective care.
11. Identify gaps in skills and workforce and liaise with the Clinical Lead/Manager and the Head of Nursing to ensure gap analysis.
12. Support the Clinical Lead/manager in the development and implementation of guidelines, protocols and clinical policies and procedures including the roll-out of policies to clinical teams within the service.
13. Provide quality leadership and line management to the clinical team and ensure they are responsible for their own learning and actions which must always be in the best interests of the patient.
14. Ensure that resources are used effectively, efficiently, and appropriately. Supporting in the management of stock and medications control.
15. Support the Clinical Lead/Manager as directed to ensure clinics are fully compliant with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and also the RSOPs for termination services. Support with incident feedback and reporting.
16. Work with the Clinical Lead/Manager to ensure the clinics are fully compliant with Infection Control and Health and Safety regulations. Auditing and actioning as directed/required.
17. Support with the operational management of clinical areas as required.
18. Engage and support with the Patients Safety incident Response framework in relation to incidents and complaints focusing on transparency, supporting those affected, and ensuring continuous learning to improve healthcare safety.
Patient Care
1. Support the services across the area to ensure the delivery of a high standard of patient care and safety, reporting concerns to the Clinical Lead/Manager/Regional Manager.
2. Support in the implementation of programmes of care for patients in accordance with appropriate care pathways and evaluate their effectiveness.
3. Deliver safe and effective abortion, contraceptive, and sexual health advice and care.
4. Always recognise and uphold the patient right to dignity and respect.
5. Ensure the full and accurate completion of all client documentation, undertaking audit and escalating concerns to the Clinical Lead/manager/Head of Nursing.
6. Ensure that the right number of staff, with the right skills are in the right place to provide patient care raising concerns with staffing to the Regional Clinical Lead/Regional Manager.
7. Engage with and act upon patient feedback to learn and develop the services provided at NUPAS.
8. Support the Regional Clinical Lead as directed to ensure that the clinics are regularly monitored for effectiveness ensuring the environment complies with statutory regulations.
Clinical Practice
1. Work with the clinical teams to support them in ensuring patients are provided with relevant information and support to enable them to make an informed choice and with nursing interventions based on evidence-based practice in relation to abortion care.
2. Ensure the provision of specialist holistic care supplying contraception and medicines in line with company policies.
3. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base to implement and support care delivery in a specialist area of care, whilst supporting and advising junior staff as required.
4. Support in the development of the clinical teams to ensure the correct protocols are used for patients of different ages and with differing needs - considering safeguarding and mental capacity.
5. Identify and escalate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and actively seek to reduce or eliminate those concerns identified in a positive manner.
6. Provide any necessary screening for sexually transmitted infections and advise clinical teams as required.
7. Support the Clinical Lead/Manager/Head of Nursing in the delivery of staff training and education.
8. Ensure that practice is compliant with professional bodies, regulatory standards. Report concerns via the correct NUPAS processes.
9. Undertake safe and effective medications management in line with policy. Where applicable and appropriately trained, support through non-medical prescribing.
Professional Development
1. Support the Clinical Lead/Manager to ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements and ensure that all clinical staff across the region comply with the requirements, managing concerns at a local level before escalating to the Regional Clinical Lead.
2. Provide induction, training and support to new staff and ensure that their development needs are appropriately met in line with NUPAS competency assessment training frameworks.
3. Undertake appraisals with identified clinical staff to identify development needs.
4. In conjunction with the Regional Clinical Lead, ensure learning needs have been identified through the appraisal process.
5. Manage own workload in line with NUPAS visions and Values.
6. Engage in own supervision and development to ensure clinical knowledge is up to date.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Current Nurse and or Midwifery Council registration as a Registered Nurse - Sub part 1 of the NMC register - Registered Midwife
* Contraceptive Qualification or experienced in fitting subdermal implants - Letter of competence required - or willingness to work toward training
Desirable
* Professional Nurse or midwifery advocate
* Independent Non-Medical or Supplementary Prescribing qualification
Experience
Essential
* Ultrasound scanning experience in first and second stage trimester, or willingness to work toward training within 3 months of commencement where available
* Cannulation experience or willingness to work toward training as required
* Excellent knowledge and experience in medications management and safe administration.
* Experience coordinating the management of clinical areas, and the appropriate delegation of clinical tasks.
