Swindon’s Traffic Management & Road Safety team has a critical role in managing and improving our highway and transport network and in supporting our growing business and residential populations. Balancing demands and current and future transport needs through our policies, strategies and works programmes is key to ensuring that we have a safe, effective and efficient highway and transport network able to help Swindon achieve its potential.
Your next role
Joining Swindon Borough Council as our Traffic Data Technician is your chance to make a difference and be part of something exciting.
You will work as part of the Traffic Management and Road Safety Team within the Highways and Transport service area, to gather, collate, analyse and report on a variety of highways and transport data. You will support strategy and policy formulation, and the highways and transport capital programme by providing the necessary data to allow informed, evidence-led decisions to be made on scheme priorities.
You will monitor the performance of the highway network particularly in regard to the effectiveness of traffic management and road safety capital schemes being implemented.
* You will be A level educated, or equivalent in a discipline relevant to the post, or have equivalent demonstrable experience in working with data in an operational environment.
* You will have experience of working in an operational and strategic statistical/analytical environment analysing data and reporting on trends using a variety of methods and techniques.
* You will have the ability to interpret and present data in a way which is insightful to operational managers demonstrating good communication skills – both written and verbal.
* You will have good IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel and conversant with database applications as well as experience of using Geographical Information System (GIS) to obtain, collate and analyse spatial data.

The team operates a hybrid working model, you will be in the office for a minimum of two days per week, which may increase due to business needs.
