Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - Head and Neck Services (XR08)
This is a rare opportunity to put your stamp on a unique area and join the pharmacy team caring for the patients in the adult specialities based at Leeds General Infirmary. The post holder's responsibilities cover a breadth of services including Ophthalmology, Ear Nose & Throat, Maxillofacial Surgery as well as adult & paediatric pharmacy services within the Leeds Dental Institute. These services are represented across the main and peripheral sites within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust - Leeds General Infirmary, St James's University Hospital, Seacroft Hospital, Wharfedale Hospital and Chapel Allerton Hospital.
You will promote high-quality, safe and cost-effective use of medicines across the specialities by working collaboratively with the respective multi-disciplinary teams.
This 12-month fixed term contract opportunity is an exciting opportunity to be a core part of a supportive and experienced team with an emphasis on patient care. Main Duties of the Job
Your role will deliver a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to wards and will include contributing to shared care guidelines/practice, reviewing clinical trial proposals and completing Drug & Therapeutics Group submissions. You will ensure adherence to NICE guidance, support medicines governance by reviewing and producing finance reports, completing horizon scanning and medicines safety audits (e.g. controlled drug and safe & secure handling of medicines audits). There will be opportunities to be involved in the approval of unlicensed medicines within the specialities and support the management of medicines shortages. You will also oversee the ophthalmology homecare service.
In addition, you will contribute to the supervision and training of foundation and specialist pharmacists, medical and other multi-disciplinary staff. You will also support colleagues in Pharmacy Aseptic Services and the Leeds Medicines Advisory Service with your clinical expertise.
There will be opportunities for close working with the neurosciences pharmacy team providing mutual support and clinical cover, and you will have opportunities to work with the paediatric pharmacy team too.

Job Responsibilities
Job Purpose: To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate highly specialised clinical pharmacy services to a clinical speciality within the Trust.
Job Dimensions: Leads the highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within the speciality of the Head and Neck services, to support the wider speciality of neurosciences at LTHT. Ensures medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust policy, standard operating procedures and medicine legislation. The post holder is expected to determine how the outcomes are best achieved in specific circumstances.
Manage other pharmacists providing specialised clinical pharmacy service within own clinical speciality depending on size of area.
Works directly and regularly with consultants, senior nursing staff and managers within the clinical speciality. Monitors and interprets expenditure on medicines within own clinical speciality. Provides the Directorate with regular reports to assist in the safe use of medicines, the management of the drug budget and clinical governance issues. The report also includes risk management such as the recording of significant clinical interventions and near misses.
Supervise, along with other members of their multidisciplinary team, the development and implementation of treatment protocols, and guidelines for use of drugs within the clinical area.
Responsible for training pharmacists, and other health care professionals, on aspects of drug use within the clinical area.
Provides a minimum of at least one 4-hour session of service cover (core professional commitment) in the dispensary or aseptic dispensary each week. Participates in evening, weekend and bank holiday rota and where appropriate, out of hours services.
To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in line with local procedures.

Experience

* Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
