We are looking for an Electrical Manager to work within our busy Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Team, within Housing Operations. The Team comprises of 4 Electrical Managers, all managing individual teams of around 12 Electricians each delivering all aspects of electrical work.

About the Role:
You will be part of the busy and ever-growing M&E Electrical team undertaking domestic, commercial, project, and cyclical maintenance work carried out within our SCC properties and Corporate estate.
Your basic duties will include:
1. Leading a designated team of around 12 electricians
2. Handling and working with NICEIC electrical certification
3. Managing small and large more complex projects
4. Delivering compliance aspects of electrical cyclical maintenance
5. Tendering and quoting for work
6. Dealing with finance and orders
7. Managing day-to-day matters, contract management, and management of sub-contractors while working in conjunction with other teams and departments to meet deadlines
8. Quality control/quality assurance checks and carrying out site-based inspections and reporting
9. Handling telephone, face-to-face meetings, and email queries
10. Investigating complaints including those from Councillors, MPs, and Ombudsman
11. Supporting/working with fellow M&E Trade Managers and other Managers within the service
12. Meeting with the Client function(s) to oversee the appropriate delivery of both planned and reactive work
*You will be required to become an approved and registered NICEIC ‘Qualifying Supervisor’ in order to sign off electrical certification for works carried out. Experience and knowledge in this area along with competence are a must, and previous experience of this elsewhere is welcomed. Additional trade skills and knowledge would be an advantage.
From a landlord perspective, we need to ensure that properties comply with both legal and regulatory obligations regarding Electrical & Gas systems in place and the work we carry out on behalf of SCC. Robust planning and delivery of cyclical maintenance inspections is critical to ensure full compliance. Balancing reactive work with planned work and utilizing resources appropriately is a daily challenge.
As the work is varied, a flexible approach is required to meet changing needs and tight deadlines. Excellent customer service skills, enthusiasm, and a ‘can do’ attitude are essential as you’ll be our ambassador when working with our client(s) or speaking to customers and suppliers. You will liaise with residents, peers, and colleagues daily, so communication and customer focus will be essential to the role. Organizational, customer service, time management, and a high level of competency in using IT systems are key to this role. You will need to remain calm and unflustered when working under pressure and/or faced with confrontation.
The role will involve office-based working in Southampton as well as meetings in other SCC buildings, along with site-based visits carrying out compliance-based inspections, reporting to the M&E Services Manager directly. You will therefore need to have a car, where business-related mileage can be claimed for along with a nominal monthly allowance.
You will work a standard 37-hour week based on operational hours between 07:30 am to 16:15 pm (15:15 pm finish on Fridays) and your basic leave entitlement is 27 days annual leave per year, plus bank holidays. This leave increases to 30 days after you have completed 5 years of continuous service. Additionally, we work a ‘Flexitime’ scheme where an additional 13 days annual leave can be gained from day 1 of starting with us (by working 39 hours per week in line with service hours, accruing an extra day for every 4 weeks worked).
