Join to apply for the Speciality Doctor in General Surgery role at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
The candidate will be required in the first instance to rotate through the upper GI, colorectal in conjunction with Specialist Registrars working within the department. We are looking for a person who is highly motivated and capable to assist in the management of general surgical conditions within the Trust. If you have particular expertise in certain procedures or wish to acquire further skills that are of benefit to the trust, then this will be actively discussed and supported within the strategic and financial constraints that currently exist.
The new appointee will be expected to have a broad understanding, knowledge and UK based experience of general surgery, laparoscopic and breast surgery and endoscopy.
* The new appointee will be expected to be familiar with and competent in the investigation and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disease including endoscopy.
* On call 1:8 with prospective cover for general surgical emergencies. Intermediate cover within the department is provided by Foundation/Core Trainee doctors and Specialist Registrars/Trust Grade doctors.
* Elective general surgery dependent on the experience of the successful candidate and case mix.
* Responsible for colorectal rapid access outpatient clinics.
* To work with colleagues to audit activity and undertake research to ensure uniformly high standard of care.
* To participate in the teaching of undergraduates and other professional groups and to provide clinical supervision and training of junior hospital doctors.
* To participate in continuing professional development activities and in the Trust’s appraisal and assessment processes, which include a formal annual appraisal.
* To participate in revalidation as required by the General Medical Council.
