A unique opportunity to join the Environmental Engineering team at MBDA as a Mechanical Design Engineer, designing test fixtures for the application of vibration and shocks to a range of MBDA products.
Job Title: Environmental Design Engineer
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Stevenage (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)
Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically 3 - 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship
Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.
The opportunity:
This role is supporting the Environmental Engineering teams at MBDA with mechanical design work. The primary purpose of the role is to design test setups and test fixtures for mechanical and climatic testing as well as maintaining a database of all fixture designs and test setups. There are also opportunities to expand into mechanical and hybrid modelling.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we are undergoing a significant expansion in space and capability, with our new building due to be commissioned in 2025.
As an Environmental Design Engineer you will be responsible for the design of mechanical test fixtures to be used for vibration and shock testing across all MBDA products. You will also work closely with project and test teams who will provide details on test requirements, interfaces and products for testing.
What we're looking for from you:
Essential:
1. HNC/HND/Degree qualified in a subject relevant to the role or demonstrable equivalent experience
2. Experience of mechanical design work using CAD tools, ideally CREO
3. Good problem solving skills coupled with a sound fundamental knowledge of mechanical structures and analysis
4. IT Competence including MS Word, Excel and Access
5. Determined individuals that are self-motivated and can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
Desirable:
1. Experience of designing mechanical structures for vibration and shock testing
2. Experience of conducting mechanical and hybrid modelling and test application methods
3. Knowledge of environmental engineering, particularly applicable standards (DEF STAN 00-035, MIL STD 810)
4. Experience working in Defence or Aerospace industries
5. Previous experience identifying and delivering capability and technical improvements
