Job Description:
Your new school Hays are recruiting for a job as a Full-Time Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant for an SEN School in Cardiff which caters for pupils aged 4-11 with a variety of complex additional social, behavioural, and learning needs. The job will involve working with a small group of year 3 and 4 pupils, supporting them with their engagement in lessons, their mental wellbeing, as well as with avoiding / de-escalating any challenging behaviours. The school is highly regarded and well-respected for the fantastic vision set out by the senior leadership team and headteacher, as well as the care and education offered by the passionate and supportive teaching team. The school looks to recruit from within, meaning that this position could be a fantastic route to being a permanent member of staff. Due to the additional behavioural and mental health support many children require, they do have a tendency to be disruptive and verbally abusive. Therefore, patience, empathy, and understanding are crucial elements of the job, as well as the ability to not take these things to heart, putting the students first.
Your new role:
The role is confirmed long-term, starting as soon as possible, working 5 days a week. However, the school are also interested in bringing in part-time members of staff working 2–4 days a week. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:
1. Demonstrating high levels of patience, empathy, and care when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour such as verbal abuse.
2. Creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable learning environment.
3. Working closely as part of a positive and welcoming teaching team.
4. Working with small groups of year 3 and 4 pupils.
5. Supporting the implementation and delivery of a lesson plan, ensuring that students are engaged in their work.
What you'll need to succeed:
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience over the course of the last 2–3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include enthusiasm, calmness, dedication, patience, and the ability to solve problems effectively when working under pressure. Team Teach Training is desirable but not a required qualification.
What you'll get in return:
This is an opportunity to work with a fantastic and ambitious SEN school in Cardiff which prides itself on providing a safe and supportive learning space for its pupils, giving them the best possible opportunity to succeed.
Please note that if you are NOT a passport holder of the country for the vacancy you might need a work permit. Check our Blog for more information.
