Applications are invited for a Consultant Urologist. This is a new post and the appointee will be based at East and North Herts NHS Trust. The is a full time post comprising of 10 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment of 1:12 providing emergency care for adults and children above the age of 2. The role includes urology one-stop clinics, diagnostics and theatre activities as well as hot clinics and Men's Health.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Urology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. We have a shared Urology Ward and good links with the renal teams. There is a broad range of open, reconstructive, endoscopic, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery well supported by modern equipment and dedicated theatres. There is a sub-regional renal unit so patients with complex nephro-urological problems are safely managed. We are also well supported by 4 interventional radiologists with CT, MR and nuclear medicine.
Applicants should have complete Adult Urology training either in the UK or equivalent at the time of interview. They should have also completed a minimum of one year in Urology at post CCT level. Applications from those wishing to work part-time or job share are welcomed.
Main duties of the job
* Maintenance of high quality patient centred care
* Shared responsibility for the day to day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
* Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
* Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
* Active participation in continuing medical education
This is a new post currently covered by a Specialist doctor in Urology. The appointee will be primarily based at the East and North Herts NHS Trust. The post comprises 10.05 programmed activities (PAs). The role also includes one-stop urology clinics, diagnostics and theatre activities as well as provision of on-call 1:12.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register / Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* Completion of Urological training in the UK or equivalent
* College Membership (FRCS Urol) or qualification of an equivalent level

* Postgraduate academic degree

Previous Experience

* Broad range of experience in Endo-Urology, Cancer Diagnostics and General Urology
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
* Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
Desirable
* Minimum 12 months experience at post CCT or consultant level
