· To co-ordinate the activity of plastic trauma patients through the plastic trauma treatment room on the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) this involves new referrals, liaising with theatres, wards, A&E, surgical team and GP’s.
· To ensure that plastic surgery patients are managed in a timely, efficient manner according to their needs
· To ensure optimum utilisation of available theatre time
· To assist with the assessments of patients, performing dressing changes where appropriate
· To assist the plastic surgical team in the care of patients during and after minor plastic procedures
· To ensure patients receive high quality expert clinical care.
· To promote an environment that is safe and provides high quality patient focused care every time.
· Act as a resource for patients and their families, regarding matters around their care
· Ensure that coding for plastic patients is correctly captured
· This involves the application of the NMC code of conduct and the Trust’s CARE values
Ensure all patients referred to the plastic trauma clinic on SAU are reviewed and assessed by the junior plastics doctor as promptly as possible.
·Work with the plastics surgical team to ensure safe practice and care of patients during and after minor plastic procedures
·Act as a scrub nurse during minor operating procedures in MOPS room
·Clearly communicate any decision to admit patients with the clinical site team and the SAU nurse in charge
·Responsibly always supervise all nurses and students adhering to the NMC code of Professional Conduct.
·Ensure patients are seen in a time manner and ensure that they are kept fully informed of procedure, waiting times, reasons for waiting at home, the necessity of cancellation, prioritizing of patients
·Recognize potential conflict situation with patients, use negotiation skills to defuse unpredictable situations to achieve the best possible outcome
·Liaise with other multidisciplinary teams, ie dermatology, physiotherapy plus the wider health care providers ie HMP, GP’s DN in other trusts
·Act as mentor to students and post registration students, assist with completion of relevant competencies
·Participate in educational programmes to ensure dissemination of up to date Burns and Plastic trauma knowledge and the sharing of best practice
·Participate in research projects pertinent to Burns and Plastics as required
