Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary CAMHS team in Liverpool. They will engage children and young people with a learning disability and their families in the therapeutic process, supporting the assessment and implementation of complex mental health interventions under the supervision of an experienced CAMHS clinician.
The post holder will liaise with external agencies, including health, education, social care, and the voluntary sector, acting as a named key worker to children, young people, and families accessing Alder Hey CAMH services. Under supervision, they will carry out effective and evaluated assessments in line with their own knowledge base and the trust's policies and procedures.
The post holder will be responsible for enabling effective and meaningful service user participation in the design and delivery of our services through individual and group engagement, facilitation of events/focus groups, and supporting the wider CAMHS participation agenda and that of Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will have the ability to self-reflect and be aware of working within their job remit. They will attend team meetings, regular supervision, and be willing to joint work cases with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
* To work directly with children and young people with a learning disability and their families as directed by senior clinicians.
* To maintain patient records (including care plans and risk assessments) in line with trust policy.
* To escalate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and other relevant agencies in line with trust policy.
* To work in the community, including home visits and through agreed activities to positively improve a young person's social and emotional development.
* To work flexibly to maximise opportunities for engagement of children, young people, and families.
* To develop positive relationships with children, young people, and families which actively support their engagement.
* To identify appropriate activities for young people and develop a local knowledge of youth groups and alternative voluntary projects young people can link with.
About us
This is an exciting opportunity for a mental health engagement practitioner to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The mental health engagement practitioner will be a member of the specialist, multi-disciplinary service and will be supported through supervision by a senior member of the team regularly. The post holder will provide a range of appropriate, evidence-based clinical interventions informed by assessed individual need.

Person Specification
Education, training and experience.
* Registered LD Nurse
* Current Registration with NMC
* Completed Preceptorship
Experience
* Experience of working with children and young people and their families in either Health, Social or Education settings.
* Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
* Experience of delivering specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people, or their families.
* Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.
* Experience of working with culturally diverse populations and adapting services to improve access.
* Experience of liaising and working effectively with the wider network around the child including educational, social care, family, and health.
* Experience of delivering group interventions.
Knowledge
* Understanding of how to work with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
* Knowledge of safeguarding issues and relevant legislation.
* Knowledge of child development.
* Knowledge of audit processes.
Skills
