Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic experienced Maintenance Technician to join Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST), currently going through an exciting period of change and development to support delivery of our vision and strategic objectives.
The post offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to work with an operational estates team and maintain important healthcare buildings to help the University Health Board achieve its vision of service provision improvement.
The individual would perform work including activities which are complex and/or non-routine. Assists the Estates Manager to deliver business plans, review planned maintenance procedures and support the organisation. May be required to undertake on call duties as part of the on call team to ensure that any necessary emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to across the trust. On call team members will, as reasonably required by management, also be required to cover periods of absence of their on-call team colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
Assists the Estates Manager to deliver business plans, review planned maintenance procedures and support the organisation.
The role would be principally based Velindre Cancer Centre site however dependant on the needs of the service it may be required to work on the other site locations such as Welsh Blood Service and associated sites. Management of contractors and maintenance assistants as required.
The role is to have oversight of and provide assurance of statutory compliance for fire safety equipment and systems across the Trust including but not limited to:
Fire detection and alarm systems;
Compartmentation (including fire doors and fire-stopping);
Fire signage;
Fire dampers;
Smoke Control systems;
Emergency/Escape Lighting;
Fire Suppression systems;
Fire Extinguishers;
Fire hydrants.
Management of Fire system asset software (Bolster)
Carry out condition surveys
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential
1. NVQ level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent
2. Advanced skills Fire door inspection, management of bolster software systems or similar
3. Completion of a 4 year accredited training apprenticeship
Desirable
4. Trained in Health & Safety, NEBOSH, IOSH, First Aid etc.
5. Registration with approved organisations, UK Register of Electricians, JIB Schemes, Gas Safe, etc.
6. Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes, IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET etc
