Job Title: Maintenance Person
Accountable to: Registered Manager and Home Owners
Hours: Usually Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm - On Call (to be discussed at interview).
An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
A Full Clean UK Driving Licence (Cat D1) is also required.
The Purpose of the Role:
To provide efficient and effective maintenance support to the Care Home including ensuring the security and general appearance of the building and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards and that heating systems operate at optimum efficiency.
Other Considerations: The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties. To comply with the requirements of Health and Safety, other relevant legislation and Care Home policies and ensure that instructions specified by technical consultants, contractors and manufacturers are adhered to. To act in a professional manner both in and out of the Home. To be available on call out of hours for emergencies within the Home.
Daily Duties:
1. Sweep and tidy up bin areas
2. Sweep and clear all external paths
3. Weed any borders
4. Remove any litter from car parks and road area in front of building
5. Check all drains are clear of debris
6. Complete jobs entered in maintenance books
7. Check and replace any bulbs necessary throughout the building
8. Clear snow and treat ice (during winter months)
9. Drive the Mini bus (a clean D1 enabled driving licence required) to pick up items required for the Home, drop off samples and take Residents to appointments and activities (Transport only).
Weekly Duties:
1. Test Fire alarm and record within fire log.
2. Test emergency lights and log any faults and action taken
3. Check filters are clean on laundry dryers and areas around pilot lights are clear of lint.
4. Check gas supplies and lighting on all kitchen equipment
5. Assist Housekeeper to put away any deliveries
6. Check all air mattresses for any faults and log any faults and action taken
7. Make good any areas of damage to decoration
8. Check and where necessary adjust door hinges, rehang or ease doors.
9. Check and secure all fire extinguishers, fittings and fixtures including rehanging curtains
10. Replace/fix tiles and grab rails
11. Check and where necessary adjust main kitchen extractor and remove or refit filters
12. Check and refix/secure any paving slabs
13. Sweep out the boiler room
14. Check all handrails and undertake remedial action for any that are loose
Monthly Duties:
1. Check and record temperatures of hot & cold water to all outlets and log any action taken
2. Check and secure fixing bolts to washing machines
3. Clean extract filters in all rooms
4. Clean internal light fittings/diffusers
5. Clean external light fittings
6. Check all wheelchairs and log any action/repairs undertaken
7. Check nurse call system and log
8. Check all hoists and document and log any action taken
9. Check all window restrictors and log any action/repairs undertaken
This is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder is expected to carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
