Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the various software applications used to deliver library services to the VCC community including the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS), website content and applications, subscription databases, and various microcomputer applications.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Assists in the management of the ILS, including testing, upgrades, troubleshooting, project management, user interface customization, training, documentation, and development issues.
* Adapts ILS features to work with library processes.
* Incorporating best practices conforming with W3C, develops and manages the library website using the college CMS, databases, and dynamic programming languages; develops the organization, structure, and dataflow of content; formats template design using CSS; and develops style guides.
* Responds to queries, concerns, and problems from staff and patrons regarding the usage of ILS modules, handles problem resolution, follows up on reported unresolved problems, tests resolutions, and communicates the status and resolution to users as appropriate.
* Performs library systems administration functions, maintains logs, updates ILS manuals, runs ILS maintenance utilities and reports, produces customized reports, and sets up Z39.50 connections.
* Maintains specialized departmental equipment, software manuals, licenses and warranties, inventories, problem logs, service equipment contracts, and files.
* Updates and troubleshoots web links, subscription database connections, and proxy settings, monitors the website for inconsistencies, old information, and identifying helpful additions.
* Produces and maintains statistical reports and other library data reports as spreadsheets or web pages.
* Assists with producing procedures and training library staff on basic operations of the ILS and other computer uses within the Library setting.
* Develops and maintains documentation on departmental systems, processes, and procedures.
* Creates print or web-based manuals, handouts, and troubleshooting guides for library personnel.
* Implements, maintains, supports, and programs various networked applications packages such as MS Word, Excel, and Access.
* Provides individualized client-support and training for library employees in various projects dealing with MS Office applications in the Windows environment.
* Following established protocols and procedures, liaises with Information and Computing Services regarding day-to-day problems with the ILS servers, personal computer equipment, and networks. Keeps Systems Coordinator informed of non-routine developments.
* Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
* Graduation from a 2-year Community College computer technology program and additional specialized training in library systems and 2 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
Skills and Abilities:
* Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and vendors.
* Superior oral and written English communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Good telephone etiquette.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several issues at any given time. Works effectively in a stressful and demanding environment with constant interruptions.
* Considerable knowledge of microcomputer applications within a library or comparable setting. Basic knowledge of library operations.
* Demonstrated competency with RDBMS, SQL, PHP or other dynamic programming languages, HTML, Linux command line operations, structured programming language, and MS Office applications.
* Understanding and experience with content management systems, Z39.50 protocols, CSS, W3C standards, accessibility software and website standards, proxy software, SharePoint, Open Source software, and related tools.
* Demonstrated initiative and ability to analyze and solve computer software, hardware, and network problems.
* Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of written and computer reports, statistics, files, and documents.
* Familiarity with the issues around providing both onsite and remote access to subscription research databases.
Salary Range: Prorated based on FTE
PAYGRADE 24 – $32.92 to $38.56 hourly rate ($2,304 to $2,699 bi-weekly)
