Job overview
Duties will be divided between the paediatric ward (including seeing acute admissions on the children’s assessment unit) and the level 2 neonatal unit.
You will be responsible, with the support of Consultants, for the day-to-day care of all medical admissions to the children’s ward, and the provision of shared care for all surgical, orthopaedic and dental patients admitted to the paediatric ward.
Other responsibilities include ward rounds on the general paediatric wards, neonatal unit, and transitional care. Also, to provide support to junior colleagues regarding routine examination of newborn babies in the maternity ward, resuscitation of the newborn in delivery suites, and care of patients on the neonatal unit.
The rota also includes outpatient sessions where new patients are seen with Paediatric Consultants.
The department runs a consultant of the week system (with a separate consultant covering paediatrics and neonates during the week), and the successful post holder(s) will be well supported at all times. Although this post is not a formal training post, the post holder will be exposed to the same educational opportunities and supervision as other junior doctors.
We operate a full shift system, and the post holder(s) will work a combination of normal working days, long days, twilight, and night shifts, including weekends.
