Short Description
My client's Aerospace business in Bedhampton, Hampshire currently has an opportunity for a Lead Engineer in Electronics Engineering with analogue and digital electronics design/development experience. This position works within a medium-sized technical team of Mechanical, Design, and Test engineers, reporting to the site Engineering manager, supporting the manufacturing plant and the FMC (Fuel and Motion Control) division. The Lead Engineer will have in-depth knowledge of analogue, digital, and power electronics and associated tools for design, development, and implementation of products.
Excellent organizational & communication skills are vital as the role will involve working on high-profile aerospace projects. The Lead Engineer will have Aerospace product development experience in both commercial and military sectors. They will also have working knowledge of aerospace standards DO-160 and DO-254, as well as knowledge of OEM customer practices and regulations. The role requires working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma and Design for Manufacturability principles in electronic product development.
What you'll do:
1. Execute highly technical electronics products from concept creation to design, development, qualification, and industrialization.
2. Support business with day-to-day sustaining type activities, e.g., use of alternative electronic sub-assemblies due to supply chain constraints/obsolescence or reliability concerns.
3. Act as a subject matter expert for electronic products in my client's Bedhampton Portfolio.
4. Drive cost-out initiatives by reviewing existing designs for opportunities of cost reduction.
5. Lead obsolescence management of existing products within the portfolio and proactively identify obsolescence risks and manage changes as required.
6. Lead product investigations and liaise with customers and suppliers to resolve reliability and manufacturability issues in a timely manner.
7. Originate and develop Analog/Power electronics circuit design concepts, approaches, evaluations, and selections to resolve complex problems.
8. Lead NPI, cost-out, and Sustaining projects to cost and schedule, collaborating with other departments and team members on a day-to-day basis.
9. Lead the analog/power electronics design function within projects and support conformance assurance to objectives and schedules.
10. Produce analytical designs using tools such as Matlab/Simulink and/or Saber to tight timescales and convert this analysis into practical production designs.
11. Author technical documents as part of project execution to the highest standards.
12. Support Engineering manager and Program Managers with technical input for internal and customer PDRs/CDRs and various conferences.
13. Stay informed on trends and developments within the specialty or general area of activity.
14. Support the Manufacturing function with yield issues as required.
15. Ensure adherence to my client's process as well as customer expectations regarding design changes and modifications.
16. Support Customer audits and my client's internal audits as required.
Qualifications/Skills:
1. Analogue electronics and/or Power electronics design experience.
2. Engineering degree or equivalent with strong technical problem-solving skills.
3. Working knowledge of Matlab/Simulink, Saber, or similar analogue simulation tools is a distinct advantage.
4. Understanding of Product Development Process in general.
5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
6. Knowledge of DO-160 and/or DO-254 standards.
7. Strong project management skills with good prioritization and time management.
8. Evidence of leadership skills and ability to develop junior engineers.
9. Flexible working hours to meet work demands.
10. Good understanding of design techniques for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Salary: £60k
