Salary: £22921.97 per annum
Contract Duration: Temporary until 31st July 2028
In accordance with Government Guidelines, you will need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the Apprenticeship) to qualify for this position.
Role Purpose
Modern Apprentice – Civil Engineering Trainee Technician (Scottish Borders Council)
Scottish Borders Council is looking for an enthusiastic Modern Apprentice to work within its Roads Service. The successful applicant will undertake a structured training programme, working towards a nationally recognised qualification whilst gaining vital on-the-job training and skills. They will be given experience with various teams and help delivery engineering infrastructure projects as well as road safety and traffic-based solutions to keep the public road system within the Scottish Borders operating well.
Attendance on a day release basis at Edinburgh College is part of the training programme and the successful candidate will study for an HNC Civil Engineering and a SVQ in Built Environment Design.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and undertake the training.
They will be involved in the following:
• Using Computer Aided Drawing software and other applications, assist in designing safe infrastructure, road safety features and other related projects
• Assist in the preparation of documents and drawings required for construction
• Learn about how to procure works and services
• Speak with contractors about projects
• Assist in responding to enquiries about projects from the public
• Use Microsoft Office daily for general office duties

Essential
Qualification Requirements
5 National Qualifications, including English and Maths.
One pass at Higher Level in either Maths, Physics, a technical subject or have significant appropriate work experience.
