Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.
We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.
Would you like to volunteer in a role supporting our clients to get outdoors, connect with nature, and improve their wellbeing? Our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our clients to engage in our service.
Are you passionate about wellbeing and getting outdoors in nature? If you are physically fit and appreciate being outside, nurturing people and plants, watching things grow and getting your hands dirty, this might be the role for you.
If you enjoy helping people to flourish and find enjoyment in gardening or getting outdoors, this role is about building our community garden to be a beautiful haven full of plants and shrubs, offering attractive places for birds, insects, and butterflies to rest. You will be working alongside our clients and friendly team, planning and creating our community allotment; growing vegetables and flowers from seed or young plants. You will also be digging over soil to plant potatoes and other root vegetables.
Getting involved in planning and designing various gardening activities will be an exciting part of the role. Scented plants with textures and harmonious colors will provide relaxing places for the team and clients to feel calm and increase their sense of well-being. Tidying up, litter picking, and sweeping leaves will be part of the activities as the seasons roll by. All equipment will be provided.
You will play a key role in organizing and leading on wellbeing walks and other gentle outdoor activities, supporting health and wellbeing events, and encouraging people in recovery to try new wellbeing activities.
As well as the practical elements of this role, volunteers will also have the opportunity to support teams within the service that are not just part of their role. Volunteers for Waythrough can support clients with community appointments, educational applications, and hand out leaflets at events or within hospitals, GP, etc. Support staff at any events that are relevant. Volunteers can support clients with their exit plan to ensure that they have support if needed in the community.
