Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Working Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Salary: £90 per day
Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated and caring SEND Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school team in Honiton, Devon. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities and be committed to helping each child reach their full potential.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the SEND Coordinator and class teachers.
2. Support pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities in their learning activities in the mainstream classroom or in a separate setting.
3. Adapt support according to the individual needs of pupils to facilitate their access to the curriculum and enable them to achieve their potential.
4. Participate in the implementation of Individual Education Plans and contribute to the assessment and monitoring of students’ progress.
5. Encourage the inclusion of all pupils in the classroom and work to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
6. Facilitate the development of pupils' independence and self-confidence.
7. Assist in the development of pupils’ life skills and social integration.
8. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals involved in pupils' education.
9. Assist with the management of pupil behavior to ensure a constructive learning environment.
10. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and professional development sessions as required.
11. Ensure the health and safety of pupils is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the school.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or working with children with SEND is highly desirable.
2. An understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and awareness of the associated challenges.
3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
4. A patient, flexible, and resourceful approach with the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs.
5. Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2/3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent is advantageous.
6. A commitment to ongoing professional development.
7. A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
