Job Description Key Responsibilities: Interpretation of system requirements and ability to decompose and flow them down into firmware requirements; Conduct Firmware development activities and reviews, covering full system, sub-system design; Supporting the wider function to develop a strong process for reliable simulation; Ensure that the technical solution meets the customer, legislative and business requirements; Ensuring quality and timeliness of own engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle; Provide support to Line Manager for planning and estimation activities at the kick-off of new projects; To identify and resolve qualification, certification and safety issues; Produce project technical documentation in line with project requirements, these may include: Management Plans, Requirements Specifications, Design Documents, Interface Specifications, Acceptance Tests, Design change requests; For the test, simulation and integration of new developments, including formal testing; Opportunity to coach and mentor more junior Engineers; Opportunity to act as Project Engineering Lead (PEL) and/or Work Package Manager (WPM) on one or more projects; Role Requirements: Experience across the whole project lifecycle as firmware engineer, from bids and proposals through to in-service support (ideally from within the defence sector). Hands-on experience of designing complex systems involving multiple electronics disciplines and understanding of associated challenges and pitfalls. Successful delivery of reliable solutions to timescale and budgets. Used to dealing with a wide range of stakeholders beyond Electronics domain (i.e. Project Management, Systems, Mechanical and Software Engineering) as part of multi-disciplinary project team to resolve issues that arise during the lifespan of a project. Able to be a Team Player and work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment collaborating with Team members on a daily basis. Additional Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a relevant subject, additionally Chartered status or Professional Registration is desirable. Experience in a Defence/Maritime/Aviation environment is desirable. Had exposure to any of the following: Development of Analog and digital technologies, Design for EMC, Electrical Safety & Signal Integrity of firmware, schematic or PCB layout, Firmware development; Familiarity with one or more PMRP and ECAD tools; Design for manufacture, understanding of full project life cycle. Prototyping, test and verification of electronic subsystems (Hardware/Firmware), unit and sub-system level. Use of standard office tools and knowledge of engineering tools such as DOORS, ERPs and other Configuration Management tools. The Candidate must be eligible for SC clearance. Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and experience within a relevant complex engineering environment. May be required to maintain security clearance.
