An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician (Shift Electrician) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Management Team. The day technician is employed to work across both engineering disciplines. They will have been trained wider than their core skill and acquired elements of both Electrical and Mechanical skills and have reached a level of flexibility and competence which enables them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform across numerous duties, these will include general maintenance and installation on the complex systems that form part of the infrastructure to the site.
Main duties of the job
1. Carry out specialist installations and repairs on power, lighting, nurse call, fire alarms and intruder alarms, including any programming that may be required and passing on operational instructions to ward or department staff.
2. Activate power changeover plant and be able to safely isolate from generators or local network in the event of a malfunction.
3. Be conversant with, and work on inverter drives and soft start systems.
4. Work safely on standby electrical systems such as 400V generators and UPS systems.
5. Work on Door Access and Security Tagging systems throughout the Trust site.
6. Design and carry out any electrical installation work as required and diagnose and repair faults on these systems according to the IEE Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations (BS7671).

Job responsibilities
1. Test, diagnose and repair faults on engineering and/or electrical and plumbing installations, plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
2. Understand the working of mechanical and/or electrical and plumbing systems within NHS buildings.
3. Instruct others on the above features and other aspects of his/her work.
4. Perform a wide range of work of other crafts.
5. Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.
6. Carry out repairs, maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment.
7. Use all relevant tools and equipment.
8. Participate in/learn new procedures, new technology, in order to improve methods of work so increasing Department efficiency and utilisation.
9. Perform PPM maintenance on these systems along with any other duties delegated to them by the Team Leaders that are within their capabilities.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds qualification or other approved training.
* BTEC ONC or equivalent.
* Attendance on First Aid and Health and Safety.
* Registration with approved organisations i.e., UK Register of Electricians, JIB Schemes, Gas Safe etc.
Experience
* Experience in a similar specialist role in a commercial or industrial building services engineering environment with demonstrable total commitment to specialise, but also to be versatile and offer flexibility across a wide range of specialist building service elements.
* Working in an Acute Healthcare environment.
