Main duties of the job
* To assess and provide the full range of care needs to develop, implement and evaluate care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women and their babies, working under supervision as required.
* To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
* To work within the community and acute services at Yeovil.
* To provide effective leadership and to act as a good role model.
* To supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff, acting as a mentor.
* To work autonomously within guidelines and spheres of professional practice.
* To promote choice for women and promote an individualised service.

Qualifications
Essential
* Current NMC Registration as a Midwife.
* UK recognised Diploma/Degree level or above in Midwifery Practice.
* Completed preceptorship development programme with post qualification experience.
* Basic neonatal and adult resuscitation.
* UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable
* Mentor/assessor training qualification.
* NIPE.
Experience
Essential
* Leadership skills.
* Ability to supervise learners.
Desirable
* Management of homebirth and water birth.
* Can practice as an autonomous midwife in the acute and primary care setting.
* Proved post qualification experience, within the last 3 years.
* Expert in the following extended skills: venepuncture, cannulation, perineal suturing.
* Assist at instrumental births.
* Management of epidural anaesthesia.
* Knowledge and ability to deal appropriately with high-risk cases.
* Knowledge and ability to deal appropriately with obstetric emergencies in the absence of medical staff.
* Good keyboard and IT skills and a knowledge of data protection.
