Job Summary
The International Blood Group Reference Laboratory (IBGRL), Red Cell Reference (RCR) Team provides specialist clinical diagnostic services for NHS Blood and Transplant and reference laboratories worldwide. RCR undertakes an extensive and exciting Research & Development (R&D) program alongside their clinical diagnostic service.
You will be working with the Red Cell Reference team, including research, clinical and biomedical scientists, utilising specialist techniques and research tools. You will also be working in collaboration with other NHSBT departments and external colleagues to achieve the best possible project outcomes.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will undertake research activities within NHSBT’s IBGRL department. Your responsibilities include:
* Assist in the preparation of scientific research papers for external publication and provide required information/data to assist in grant applications.
* Provide training in highly specialist scientific techniques to other research scientists and technicians within NHSBT.
* Use professional judgement to resolve scientific problems involving incomplete and conflicting information.
* Prepare, select and use appropriate controls to ensure validity of research results
* Collate, analyse and interpret highly complex, novel scientific data from own research activities.
* Communicate highly complex information concerning own R&D within the NHSBT
* Supervise and/or train less experienced staff/students/trainees/researchers
About You
Experience and Knowledge
* High level of proficiency in relevant highly specialised laboratory techniques/environments
* Experience of working in a research laboratory
* Knowledge of Transfusion/Transplantation or complementary science
* Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
* Ph.D. in a relevant science
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

This is a 12 months fixed term/secondment.
