The Role
We are seeking flexible and dedicated Teaching Assistants for ad hoc day-to-day work to support our students when staff absences arise. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are passionate about working with children with special educational needs and are looking for flexible working hours.
Main Responsibilities
Deliver individualised support in lessons in the absence of regular staff.
Follow lesson plans and care routines provided by the class teacher.
Provide support with personal care, communication, and sensory needs.
Manage challenging behaviour in a calm and patient manner.
Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, and other staff members.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Essential Criteria
Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
Ability to adapt quickly and follow instructions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach.
Flexibility to work on a day-to-day basis.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in a special school setting.
Training in communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or sensory integration strategies.

Vetting: Five Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all the staff we employ to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including reference checks and TRA checks. Applicants who do not have a non-voluntary enhanced DBS on the update service, will need to process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work and the DBS has been registered on the update service.
