Overview of the role:
The role is within a small, dedicated team responsible for the Council's cybersecurity. You will assist senior team members in securing the Council's network and data, handling tasks such as writing security policies, managing vulnerabilities, performing penetration tests, and creating reports. Occasionally, you'll investigate issues flagged by the outsourced SOC and take protective actions.
What we are about:
Maintaining the security and data integrity of the Council’s network and systems is a key part of the team’s work. As we approach the end of our three-year Cyber Security Strategy, significant changes have been implemented, including new tools for vulnerability management, intruder detection XDR, SIEM, and a 24/7 SOC service. The team ensures the Council's IT systems remain secure by continuously scanning for vulnerabilities and collaborating with other departments to resolve issues promptly. We support new and ongoing projects by promoting good security practices and arranging penetration tests for new web applications. Additionally, we manage the organization’s phishing testing and awareness programs, reporting outcomes to senior management, and develop and maintain the Council’s cybersecurity policies. The team also serves as the point of contact for security-related matters, providing information and support across the Council.
What you will do:
As part of the team, you will collaborate with senior members to manage all aspects of cybersecurity. Your tasks will include:
1. Monitoring security tools,
2. Working with senior engineers to resolve issues, and updating policies to reflect the evolving security landscape,
3. Supporting project teams in implementing new systems, ensuring adherence to the Council’s security policies and best practices.
