Naked Energy is a UK based cleantech business, operating globally. We are on a mission to change energy for good by helping to enable the transition to a zero-carbon future.
Powered by our innovative solar thermal technologies we are decarbonising heat and hot water. Heating and cooling create half of all carbon emissions making it a key focus in scaling back climate change.
At the core of Naked Energy’s offering is Virtu® a unique solar technology. Virtu has consistently exceeded expectations both in terms of energy density and in winning recognition from CIBSE, Shell, BEIS and the European Institute of Innovation. You can learn more about us and our technologies at
Following a successful series B fundraise we are at the start of a very exciting period of growth, and are looking to expand our already very talented teams. We are very proud of the people we have in the company, and are excited to bring in additional individuals that we can support and develop as the company grows.
Working with us will provide you with exposure to high-profile clients, collaboration with hugely engaging, knowledgeable and supportive colleagues and a strong network of partners, all with a passion for tackling climate change and a commitment to sustainability.
Regardless of background, we welcome all to build a diverse and inclusive community within Naked Energy. We aim to provide an open and positive working environment that encourages individuals to utilise their experiences and perspectives to help Change Energy for Good.

Purpose of role:
Naked Energy has developed Virtu: a family of solar products that provide simultaneous heat and power to commercial and industrial buildings. Virtu products are now integrated into over 100 renewable energy systems, which are producing a wealth of data, accessible via Naked Energy’s Clarity® monitoring platform.
We are seeking an early-career data scientist to hold a key role in analysing and interpreting the performance data produced from our systems, and present the findings to enable the business to make ongoing improvements and efficiencies. They will develop new data tools and simulation tools to assist the business with engineering system design, performance prediction and predictive maintenance.
This role would suit someone with a science or engineering background who has specialised in data science, or a pure data scientist with an interest in science, engineering and renewables.
Role Responsibilities:
* use state-of-the art data analytics techniques to mine energy system monitoring data together with other data sets to give appraisals of system performance against benchmarks.
* investigate how performance is affected by the engineering design choices that were made during construction, and use this to inform future system designs, working closely with Naked Energy’s design engineering team.
* further develop Naked Energy’s in-house predictive performance models to predict more accurately system performance using a data-driven approach, as well as developing new models either from scratch or using third-party simulation tools.
* work closely with Naked Energy’s operation and maintenance team to develop algorithms to detect and predict system faults using data signatures and machine learning techniques.
* work closely with Naked Energy’s software team to deploy these capabilities on Naked Energy’s Clarity web apps.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, applied sciences or data science
* Up to 4 years’ experience in an engineering or data role
* Highly numerate
* experience in dealing with large data sets and in data presentation
* Programming experience (e.g. Python, R)
* Experience in machine learning, data analytics or AI
Desirable: Experience in solar or renewables or heating/cooling technology
Should you need any support during the recruitment process please let us know. We are striving to make our company as inclusive as possible and that starts from our first interactions with you.
