Fixed term to August 2026 in the first instance.
The Directors of Blackdown Education Partnership are seeking to appoint a Teacher of English to join our school from September 2024. This vacancy would be particularly suitable for an ECT, but RQTs and more experienced teachers are also welcome to apply.
Uffculme is a flourishing, popular, high performing School located on the beautiful Devon/Somerset border with easy motorway access to the regional centres of Taunton and Exeter. We are fully comprehensive and committed to inclusion.
In 2024 our Progress 8 score was +0.50 and our Basics E&M 9-5 was 62% and Basics E&M 9-4 was 83%, maintaining our track record as being one of the highest performing non-selective schools. Consequently, we have received many national awards and accolades over recent times in recognition of the quality of the education provided here at Uffculme.
Within this context, the English Department is one of the flagship departments of the school where approximately 90% of students achieve a Grade 4 or higher in English.
Whilst our examination results speak for themselves, they don’t tell the whole story. They are based on a culture of high expectations; exceptional levels of student participation and active involvement in the life of the school; and great relationships between staff and students. We make no apologies for wanting it all as a school: happy staff, happy students, outstanding results, amazing opportunities, and a culture which rewards and values success in all its forms.
The successful candidate will be, or have the potential to be, an outstanding teacher who inspires a keen interest in English in students and who is able to deliver the exceptional results which we have come to expect from our students. A full contribution to our extensive extra-curricular programme will be expected. In return, we can offer you support from an excellent team of colleagues where morale is high, fantastic facilities, and young people who genuinely want to learn.
If this sounds like the sort of school you would like to be a part of, and you are, or have the potential to be, an outstanding teacher who will inspire our students, then please apply.
The closing date is 9.30am Monday 3rd March; interviews to be held in the week of 10th March.
Uffculme School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or religion.
As part of our due diligence process when shortlisting, we may carry out an online search of publicly available material to identify any incidents or issues which we might want to explore with the applicant at interview.
