This is a unique opportunity within the radiotherapy department in Bristol!
Radiotherapy is delivered to patients on a daily, outpatient basis Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 8:00pm, including Bank Holidays with some Saturday working. The aim of radiotherapy is to cure or provide palliation for cancer patients by using beams of radiation. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with surgery and/or chemotherapy.
This post is based in the pre-treatment area of the department where patients have CT scans in order for their treatment to be planned.
Build relationships and closely follow patient’s progress, whilst our patients appreciate dealing with a familiar face with an in-depth knowledge of their individual situation and needs.
The role of the pre-treatment support worker is to work alongside the therapeutic radiographers in pre-treatment, ensuring that the equipment is checked and ready for use, that patients receive relevant information. You will get consent for procedures such as having contrast media and also to have their photos taken for identification process. You would also need to liaise with other services such as transport teams, hotel services and community services. You will assist in the mould room making beam directional shells. You will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining the clinical area.
Full training for all these new roles would be given and you will also complete an Allied Healthcare Professional apprenticeship relevant to the role.
