Position Summary
The Head of Data Management and Data Governance will lead the organisation’s data management and governance strategy, overseeing data quality, data governance policies, data architecture, and data lifecycle management to ensure data integrity, accessibility, security, and compliance. Further, they will support senior leadership by creating business insights, reports, and analyses to aid in the decision-making process. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Digital Architecture, Member Services, Compliance, and all areas of Operations, to establish and uphold best practices for data handling, support strategic data initiatives, and cultivate a data-driven culture across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Strategy & Governance Development: Develop, implement, and maintain the organisation's data governance framework, policies, and standards. Establish strategic priorities for data governance and data quality management aligned with business objectives. Drive data stewardship programs and foster a data governance culture, ensuring accountability and ownership of data assets across departments.
2. Data Quality & Compliance: Oversee data quality initiatives, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, reliability, and consistency. Ensure compliance with data-related regulations (e.g., UK Data Protection GDPR) and industry standards, implementing mechanisms for monitoring and reporting compliance. Develop processes to detect, correct, and prevent data errors, and manage data issues.
3. Data Architecture & Management: Define and manage enterprise data architecture, including data models, data flows, and data integration. Collaborate to design scalable data storage and data processing systems. Implement data retrieval systems via APIs, database connections, and files. Implement and optimise metadata management, data cataloguing, and data lineage tracking.
4. Data Science: Translate business needs into analytics/reporting requirements to support executive decisions and workflows with required information. Perform large-scale experimentation and build data-driven models to answer business questions.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership: Act as a key advisor on data-related topics, providing strategic direction and insights to executive leadership. Lead cross-functional data governance teams and engage data system owners across departments. Provide expertise and training on data governance policies, standards, and best practices, promoting a data-driven culture.
Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Analytics, or a related field. Professional certifications in data management or analysis (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Microsoft Certified Data Analyst) are advantageous.
Experience
Proven experience in a data management role, with 5+ years in handling and analysing data. Strong understanding of database architecture, data governance, and compliance standards. Proficiency in cloud-based data platforms and data management tools and software, such as Qlik, Tableau, or Power BI. Experience with data management tools and software, such as SQL, Python, or R, is a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage data pipelines and databases effectively.
