Job overview
Applications are invited for a 1 year, 10 PA Specialty Doctor post in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a team of consultants/speciality doctors caring for a wide variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases within the largest paediatric BMT/CAR-T cell therapy unit in the UK which performs over 100 cell procedures per annum. The post involves senior medical supervision of both the inpatient and day-case BMT/CAR-T cell therapy work. When not on in-patient service the appointee will be expected to conduct high quality clinical/scientific BMT/CAR-T cell therapy research/teaching.
Main duties of the job
This is a one-year fixed term contract and is designed for a trained paediatrician with experience in paediatric BMT and CAR-T cell therapy. The post provides senior medical supervision of both the inpatient and day-case BMT/CART. When not on in-patient service the appointee will be expected to conduct high quality clinical/scientific BMT/CART research/teaching.
Daytime responsibility for BMT/CART in-patients: This is the principal duty associated with this appointment. There are currently two consultant-led ward rounds each week. This post holder will lead a weekly ward round, and attend the multi-disciplinary discussions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Additionally, the post holder will be available throughout the day for queries regarding inpatients from SHOs and SpR’s. The post holder will also rotate to the international private patient (IPP) BMT/CART/Immunology ward with daytime responsibility for BMT/CART and immunology in-patients.

Person specification
* Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration (obtained by designated start date)
* MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
* At least 2 years of training in paediatric stem cell transplantation and CAR-T cell therapy
* Minimum of 4 years at registrar / staff grade, at least 2 years of which have been in BMT or equivalent service
* 10 years medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification
* Medical Management course
* Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline
Experience/Knowledge
* Considerable experience in BMT
* Experience of teaching and presenting to large audiences
* Experience of audit activities
* Understanding of principles of clinical governance
* Clinical experience in BMT/CART Research
* Evidence of BMT published research in peer reviewed journals
Skills/Abilities
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
* Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment
