Job overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the post of Assistant Medical Secretary, based in the Neurology department at York Hospital.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individual, who can work effectively using their own initiative, as well as being part of this superb administrative team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide support to the medical secretaries and their consultant teams, and be a proficient audio typist with the ability to transcribe complex audio tapes and digital dictation, which will include complicated medical terminology.
Excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio typing experience are necessary, as well as a good understanding of medical terminology. You will regularly be required to deal with queries from patients, consultants and GPs and use electronic work lists to actively monitor patient pathways together with general administrative tasks.
The successful candidate will be required to work well under pressure, with the ability to prioritise the demands of a busy office and manage their time and workload efficiently and effectively. They will also be required to work unsupervised and communicate with consultants and nurses on a regular basis.
The successful candidate will possess GCSE English Language grade C or above (or equivalent) and a relevant typing qualification of RSA II standard (or demonstrable keyboard skills), as well as previous clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
