The V&A is looking for young creatives aged 18-26 to take part in a free Digital Fashion Design course in February and March 2025. A cohort of 16 participants will receive technical instruction online and on-site at the V&A South Kensington and hear from fashion designers and 3D artists working in the fashion and entertainment industry.
Who is it for?
This opportunity is for young creatives interested in pursuing a career in fashion or those looking to incorporate digital garments in their creative practice. Sixteen young people will be invited to explore expressions of identity through the creation of digital garments for fashion, theatre, video game, or immersive performance.
We are interested in hearing from creatives who push the boundaries of costume, fashion, and design. There are no degree requirements for applying, and we encourage young creatives with or without formal fashion design training to apply.
The course will include:
1. A design challenge inviting participants to develop a character and a realistic digital garment for a virtual environment or social media.
2. 3D digital clothing design technical instruction, including:
1. Digital pattern making using computer-aided-design software.
2. Visualisations of your digital garment for virtual platforms.
3. Branding and portfolio guidance.
4. Talks from industry experts and mentoring sessions.
What will I gain from the programme?
1. Experience and skills in the fashion and costume design process.
2. Develop your collaboration, communication, creative, and critical thinking skills.
3. Build content for your digital or physical portfolio.
4. A chance to showcase your digital creations at a V&A event.
