This is a full-time substantive consultant neurology post based at Frimley Park Hospital (part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust) and St Georges Hospital (Dept. of Neurology and Neurosurgery)
Main duties of the job
This appointment will provide 6.5 sessions at Frimley Park Hospital and 3.5 at St Georges Hospital.
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department with inpatient and outpatient commitments. They will undertake a share of the administrative duties associated with the care patients, the running of the neurology department and the directorate.
An interest in Multiple Sclerosis or Epilepsy would be desirable but not essential, as candidates with interests that complement the current four neurologists will be considered.
The consultant will have the opportunity to be on-call approximately one or two weeks a year at St Georges (Included as salary supplement with either annualized or pro-rata payment for weekend ward rounds).

Job responsibilities
This post offers the successful applicant a unique and exciting opportunity to continue to build and develop the neurology department at Frimley Park into a modern service for the benefit of the local populations.
Frimley Park Foundation Trust has state-of-the-art imaging facilities with a spiral CT scanner and an MRI scanner. There are three radiologists with expertise in neuroimaging. Neurophysiology is delivered on-site across the Trust by Bespoke Healthcare for both inpatients and outpatients. This includes EEG, ambulatory EEG, nerve conduction studies, EMG, and evoked potentials.
The neurology service has developed in the last 2 years to have multidisciplinary team meetings with the integrated care service (ICS), neuroradiology meetings, and a medical day unit for provision of intravenous treatments including immunoglobulins and multiple sclerosis infusion therapies. New subspecialty clinics have been set up for: epilepsy, epilepsy transition, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, multiple sclerosis/urology, and Parkinsons disease.
The team is working towards being more involved in clinical research and the Trust would be flexible in trying to integrate any potential developments.
Person Specification
Skills
* Able to evaluate own clinical practice
* Able to demonstrate innovative thinking

* Computer literate - confident in using MS Office, Email and Internet
Knowledge/ Qualifications/ Special Training
* MRCP or equivalent
* CCST in neurology or within 6 months of CCST with satisfactory PYA from Deanery.
* Full GMC registration and a license to practice
Experience
* Wide clinical experience of general management principles in adult neurology
* Previous experience in participating in under graduate and post graduate teaching
* Understand principles and participated in audit activity
* Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice
* Interest in developing headache and acute neurology or epilepsy services
* To have completed a Training and Trainers course
* Previous participation in MRCP & student teaching
* Ability to be proactive
* Demonstrate being an effective team member
