Role Overview As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with SEMH needs by providing interventions that help them develop coping strategies, build resilience, and engage in their education. You will work closely with students facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioural difficulties, offering both one-to-one and group support. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with mental health difficulties. Assist students in developing emotional regulation, coping mechanisms, and resilience. Support students in managing anxiety, self-esteem, and social interactions in an educational setting. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and valued. Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and external support services to implement personalised support plans. Encourage and promote positive mental health awareness among students. Assist in de-escalating challenging situations with patience, empathy, and effective behaviour management techniques. Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies, ensuring students' safety and well-being at all times. Ideal Candidate: We are looking for an individual who is empathetic, patient, and committed to supporting students' emotional well-being. The ideal candidate will have: Previous experience working with young people with mental health challenges, SEMH needs, or additional learning needs (desirable but not essential). A background in psychology, counselling, education, youth work, or social care (advantageous). A strong understanding of mental health conditions, behaviour management strategies, and therapeutic approaches. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with students. The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations. A proactive, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to supporting students with emotional difficulties. To Work with GSL Education, You Must: Have the right to work in the UK.
