THE ROLE - SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER This roll is part of the chain of work to provide the end-to-end capability to manufacture, build, integrate, test and deliver our UAS which are either production platforms or as part of larger R&D and trials programs. Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities and Tasks · Management of the ISS UAV designs · Updating and revisions of core UAV designs · Bespoke design of additional mechanical modules or payloads · Leading a team of design engineers as the company and team grow · Liaising with customers to understand and implement requirements during R&D and bespoke work · Capturing design concepts and requirements and turning these into new generation UAV platforms whilst working directly with the CTO · Implement current best practices and follow the currently implemented design process, whilst also introducing improvements as needed · Design and implement test and analysis processes and procedures for compliance and regulatory needs Ideal Qualification Requirements: · Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related field · At least 3 years of industry experience with a focus on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or other aerospace systems · In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles, including stress analysis, material selection, and manufacturing processes · Familiarity with CAD software and other design tools used in UAV development · Experience working with UAV subsystems such as propulsion, avionics, and control systems · Understanding of regulatory requirements for UAV design and operation · Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Core Skills: · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems · Demonstrated proficiency in designing and developing UAV structures and subsystems Proficiency in CAD software, such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Pro/ENGINEER · Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other simulation techniques · Experience in the development and testing of UAV prototypes · Experience with additive and composite manufacturing technologies · Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices in UAV design and development · Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers, delegating tasks and managing project timelines · Strong attention to detail, with a focus on ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements This list is not exhaustive. SALARY Salary is dependent on experience and skillset. LOCATION The role will be based at the ISS facilities in Chieveley, Berkshire. Situated on a large farm estate, it enjoys good road links, and is 20 minutes to Reading, Swindon and Oxford. Bristol and London are around 60 minutes away. Due to the nature of the position, working from home is not possible. DRIVING & TRAVEL Due to our varied customer base and global reach, international travel will be required from time to time. All candidates need to have a current passport. Also, due to the location of the facilities, and requirements to often travel inside the UK either to customer sites or as part of trials/projects, a full, clean UK driving license is required. SECURITY Candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies, and projects will require full SC clearance which will require further evidence to be provided.
