We have an exciting opportunity for a Ward Sister to work within our Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Chichester, West Sussex. We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and hardworking individual to join our team. You must possess good communication skills and have a passion for staff and team development.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide the highest standard of evidenced based and patient centred care. As out Trust has merged and are expanding, you will be continuously learning and developing. You will be supported by our Matrons, Practice Development Teams, wider MDT teams and our Thames, Valley and Wessex Network Teams.
Our unit has successfully achieved the Gold Bliss Accreditation and now working towards Family Integrated Care and improving our work towards Breast Feeding Initiative accreditation.
Main duties of the job
To support the Matron, Senior Nurses and wider teams to ensure high quality family centred care is delivered within our services to babies and families.
To lead and take responsibility for managing a team of nurses in the initiation and delivery of high quality of care. This will incorporate clinical assurance, infection and prevention control measure, human resources, finance and procurement, family experience, safeguarding and patient safety initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To lead and manage the clinical team and patient services at ward level. To develop clear systems to ensure the delivery of family centred care which is evidence based and tailored to patient need.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assume site specific responsibility for the day to day nursing management of Neonatal Unit/Special Care Baby Unit.
2. Inpartnershipwithseniormanagementteamensureclinicalgovernance objectives aremetintermsofaudit, managing complaints,incidents,risk,patientfeedback,benchmarking, and datacollectionincluding nationalaudits.
3. Useeffectivemanagementandleadershipskillsintheoperationalmanagement oftheneonatal inpatient service.Manage the ward withresponsibilityforworkforce planning,managingsicknessabsence,recruitmentandselection,professional development and performancereviewof theteam. Responsible for ensuring spending is within ward budget.
4. Takeresponsibilityforclinicalenvironmentensuringthathighstandardsofcleanlinessandinfection controlaremetandthatappropriateactionis taken.
5. Act as a role model in clinical practice working within the clinical areas to maintain professional competence and credibility in Neonatal nursing.
6. AdhereatalltimestotheNMCprofessionalcodeof conductmaintainingownprofessionaldevelopment and personal development plan.
7. Contributetotheservicethroughcommunicating the DivisionalandTruststrategies andvisiblysupportingtrust andcorporatepoliciesandsystems.
8. ParticipateinpaediatriceducationandtrainingwithintheTrust.Actasaresource providing expert paediatricadvicetosupportthecontinueddevelopmentof theservice.
9. Developclinicalpracticeandpromote safe, evidence based, quality paediatriccare.
10. Respond to and manage complaints with support from the clinical manager and complaints department. Implement any changes/actions as a result of a complaint.
