An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join RM Medicines as a Pharmacist. The successful candidate will be integral to providing leadership and direction to the pharmacy team with an aim of providing a high-quality outpatient pharmacy service to patients at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
RM Medicines is a wholly owned subsidiary, created by The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust to provide outpatient pharmacy services, focussed on ensuring efficient and safe supply of medicines to patients.
Individuals recruited to the RM Medicines team will be supported to provide expert care to oncology patients and will benefit from training and the learning experiences of working closely with an institute providing outstanding, leading-edge treatment to cancer patients.
This post would suit a candidate with community pharmacy experience wishing to make a change into the hospital environment, for which appropriate training will be provided.
Full time/ Flexible working and Part time (min 22.5hrs/week) will be considered.
Main duties of the job
1. To lead on the efficient and effective delivery of all aspects of a high quality Outpatient Pharmacy service to patients and users by maintaining a high standard of professionalism and safety in accordance with legislation, General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) legislation, applicable Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Professional standards and recognised good practice.
2. To contribute to the optimisation and development of the Outpatient Pharmacy.
3. To participate in improvement audits and investigation of errors and implement identified service improvement when necessary.
4. To work collaboratively and supportively with the Pharmacy Manager and deputise in their absence when necessary.
5. Be the responsible Pharmacist as per GPhC regulations when required.
6. To contribute to the efficient management and administration of the business.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
7. Act as a role model for other Pharmacists and pharmacy staff, in line with the values of RM Medicines.
8. To provide clinical and professional leadership and advice to all pharmacy staff working for RM Medicines.
9. To screen, dispense and check prescriptions in accordance with local and national policies, procedures and guidelines, in particular referring any prescribing queries appropriately for confirmation or revision.
10. To implement clinical policies, procedures and prescribing guidelines under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager.
11. To be aware of particular nature of ordering, storage and supply of high cost drugs.
12. To ensure all activity undertaken is consistent with maintaining registration of the premises with GPhC as necessary
13. To ensure the ‘Medicines (Pharmacies) (Responsible Pharmacist) Regulations’ 2008 are adhered to at all times and ensure the ‘Pharmacy Record’ is maintained at all times.
14. To contribute to ensuring that up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures are in place and adhered to as required.
15. To work with the wider multi-disciplinary team to enhance and develop the Outpatient Pharmacy service that patients receive, and to continually review pathways to optimise care.
16. To participate in the development of the strategic planning processes for the Outpatient Pharmacy, implementing and monitoring action plans as appropriate.
17. To identify opportunities to improve the Pharmacy environment to drive efficiency and patient safety.
18. To provide professional advice and support to all staff working within the Outpatients Pharmacy, Trust staff and patients to ensure legal and professional pharmaceutical requirements are adhered to.
19. To manage relevant pharmacy staff and contribute to appropriate processes for assessing competency of pharmacy staff and appraisal system resulting in the formulation of appropriate training plans for pharmacy staff.
20. To contribute to the development and effective induction of pharmacy staff.
21. To ensure all disciplinary matters are fairly, promptly and professionally handled including appropriate accurate record keeping.

22. Good Standard of education to G.C.S.E level including English & Maths
23. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
24. Good time management and organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively
25. Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and other healthcare professionals
26. Ability to use Microsoft office applications eg Word, excel and outlook
Desirable criteria
27. To be working towards or hold an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or relevant GPhC accredited Training Programme equivalent to Level 2 OR
28. To have the ability to undertake and achieve QCF/NVQ Level 2 and underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Apprenticeship framework)
29. Experience of working in a Pharmacy setting
30. Previous clinical and administrative experience
31. Experience of working in NHS or other health care setting
