KBS is looking to recruit a Crane Operator on a permanent basis based in Portsmouth
Role Description: Port operative Craft, Alongside Services, Portsmouth Naval Base.
The Port Operative Craft role is an exciting opportunity to work in a safe and flexible manner, primarily as a mobile Crane operator. Reporting to the Lifting Services Team Leader and working as part of the Lifting Services Team responsible for providing heavy lift services to Naval Ships and other areas of Portsmouth naval Base.
The role: Primarily as a mobile crane operator, undertaking training to enable you to operate all crane types and capacities, i.e. Gantry, dockside and tower cranes. Operate all types of plant and carry out all aspects of any tasks as required by the Team Leader. This may include slinging operations, operating MHE, assisting the rigging department with line handling and other tasks as required.

3. To be self-motivated as part of a multi-disciplined team to deliver effectively and against tight schedules.
4. To be compliant with all policies, procedures and standard operating practices with safety being paramount in all aspects of our work.
Role Responsibilities: Primarily, but not exclusively, to operate mobile cranes.
As part of delivering this role, you will typically be:
5. An experienced mobile crane operator with a current licence.
6. A holder of a full UK driving licence which includes LGV Class C/HGV 2.
7. Able to demonstrate a good understanding of LOLER, PUWER & BS 7121.
8. Able to demonstrate a flexible approach and be willing to learn new skills.
9. A pro-active team player, able to demonstrate good people and behavioural skills.
10. Have the ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy.
11. Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst maintaining all safety standards.
12. Flexible and able to work hours outside of the core hours and at weekends, when required.
13. Be party to the on-call rotas at the request of the Team Leader.
Key Experience:
To succeed, you will ideally have:
14. A valid all terrain mobile crane license.
15. A slingers licence or have experience in slinging operations
16. Experience in operating a forklift or tow tractor.
17. Have previously worked as part of a team undertaking high risk operations.
18. A good understanding of LOLER, PUWER and BS 7121.
19. Knowledge of the crane hand signals IAW BS 7121.
20. Experience of using a computer and mobile phone to complete daily administrative tasks.
21. An understanding of the roles of an Appointed Person and Lift Supervisor.
22. Know the difference between an intermediate and complex lift.
23. A specific understanding of lifting operations using various crane types and mechanical handling equipment.
24. A broad understanding of HM Ships layouts would be an advantage.
