About the Role

Are you ready to take control of one of the most dynamic maritime environments in the UK? As a VTS Officer, you’ll be at the heart of operations on the River Humber, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels through this vital commercial artery.

From oil tankers and cargo ships to ferries and fishing vessels, you’ll monitor and manage traffic using cutting-edge radar, IT, and communication systems. Every day brings new challenges—and you’ll be the calm, decisive voice guiding mariners through the port.

2. Communicate directly with ships to provide navigational advice and traffic coordination
3. Respond to emergencies and incidents with precision and professionalism
4. Collaborate with pilots, port authorities, and port users and other stakeholders
5. Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations

What We’re Looking For

6. A cool head under pressure and razor-sharp decision-making skills
7. Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team
8. Experience in maritime or port operations, or in the Armed Forces in a communications or command and control role would be advantageous, but is not essential.
9. A passion for safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Why Join Us?

10. Be part of a mission-critical team safeguarding one of the UK’s busiest estuaries
11. Work in a high-tech control centre with panoramic views of the Humber
12. Enjoy structured training, career progression, and support toward VTS qualifications
13. Competitive salary, shift allowances, pension, and generous leave
