Role Description
Reporting to the Head of Operations, this role will have responsibility for proactively planning, controlling, and coordinating all aspects of the Engineering function to ensure optimum equipment performance efficiency as part of the overall site performance measures. All practices must be implemented and operate within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and site policies and procedures as appropriate.
To coordinate the Engineering function to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at the lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the Group Supply function:

Key Responsibilities
1. Safety, Quality, Hygiene
2. Undertake duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which form part of the Integrated Management System.
3. Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements.
4. Embrace a culture of safe behavior and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas.
5. Support and embrace a culture enhancing behavioral awareness to reduce accidents, incidents, and near misses.
6. Asset Management
7. Develop efficient and effective asset care programs to champion availability across both sites, standardizing the asset care approach with the drive to ensure effective maintenance systems, in line with the Group PMS Roadmap & the Maturity Matrix site development tool.
8. Develop the asset care strategy for both sites around the Princes interpretation of the JIPM model involving AM, PRM, and EEM.
9. Drive the transition from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned in advance, 20% of engineering time on C.I. with 75% known utilization of engineers.
10. Ensuring cost of maintenance and maintaining assets is transparent and known.
11. Development SAP PM and other systems to drive planning and control and focused improvements.
12. Create, implement and manage both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the Canning plants, utilizing Princes methodology and Group support to achieve the plants and business requirements.
13. Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity, and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to.
14. Stores Management
15. Develop effective materials management with optimized levels of spares and stock accuracy and service levels and known cost of asset spares.
16. Manage the engineering stores so that Princes Group guidelines are adhered to and that the supplier base is regularly reviewed to provide the most cost effective service.
17. Review stock levels to apply the most cost effective solution with no impact on the Factory’s KPI’s.
18. Work within Group KPI framework to drive continuous improvement in working capital management.
19. Services and Energy Management
20. Manage site facilities, ensure that statutory compliance is adhered to and performance standards are such that best practice is applied for the environmental impact and continuity of supply.
21. Work within a site services KPI framework to drive performance standards of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity, and Steam.
22. Work within Group Energy strategy framework to drive continuous improvements in energy consumption and drive down the costs.
23. Electrical Management
24. Ensure electrical standards are at a minimum compliant with current relevant legislation and the Princes group standards.
25. Work closely and have a good working relationship with the Group Electrical Manager who will support with the complete compliance program.
26. Manufacturing Engineering Management
27. Drive operating standards of the machinery.
28. Minor capital management.
29. V Curve adherence.
30. Ensure speed plate rated standards of machinery are adhered to.
31. Significant input in Labour levels.
32. Drive Performance efficiency as part of OEE.
33. Manufacturing Systems Engineering Management
34. Support and assist in MES development.
35. Performance management systems.
36. Quality systems development.
37. Energy monitoring development.
38. Capital Plan Management
39. This role will have responsibility for planning and executing the Capital plan for their respective site/sites. The role will also have an input into forward strategy for the site and sector.
40. Working with Head of Operations, Group Engineering, and the Site Leadership teams to manage the implementation of capital projects from initial concept, capital expenditure paper creation through to successful conclusion and sign-off, including:
41. Preparation and enabling work.
42. Installation and commissioning.
43. Training and performance trials.
44. Undertake technical and equipment benchmarking where appropriate to ensure the company continues to maintain its competitive edge.
45. Ensure compliance with Group Engineering standards, legislation, and best practice with regard to health & safety and CDM regulations at all times.
46. Assist with the development and implementation of Group Engineering standards for the business and ensure compliance at all times.
47. Raise and approve where applicable, capital purchase orders and authorize the payment of invoices through SAP, ensuring that project costs are managed within agreed budgets.
48. Continuous Improvement
49. Promote and drive 5S and GMP, drive RCA, and other continuous improvement tools to identify areas for improvement and establish targets to ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimized and improved for the needs of the business.
50. Systematically review performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency using the tools available. Develop and manage agreed projects and ensure completion to time and budget, ensuring minimal disruption to the production units.
51. Evoke a proactive approach to change and improvements in the performance of the sites.
52. Challenge the status quo, driving a culture of best practice and continuous improvement that focuses on the elimination of waste in all forms.
53. Manage/Develop People
54. Ensure that the engineering workforce is appropriately recruited, trained, and managed to be able effectively and safely to deliver their tasks and ensure the stability and continuity of this workforce consistent with the long-term needs of the factory. This includes where appropriate managing and developing team members in line with Princes guidelines on performance management.
55. Align self and deploy resources appropriately to meet the sites and group strategy.
56. Continually assess and develop the team to achieve Canning operational goals.
57. Challenge work practices and processes to achieve improved operational performance.
58. Manage, develop, and motivate the engineering teams ensuring they have the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to carry out engineering projects effectively.
59. Conduct self in line with the Group values and behaviors at all times.
60. Develop a culture of ownership within the team for the ongoing development of the facilities.
61. Technical Leadership
62. Act as first point of technical support for Operations and Shift managers. Apply defined best practice in all engineering and maintenance matters. Develop and apply own specialist technical skills in support of factory KPI’s.
63. Ensure that all engineering team leaders and technicians have full understanding of the fundamentals of the production processes at the factory and that new technology and management procedures are introduced in a manner that improves the cost base and competitive position of the factory.
Role Requirements
1. Graduate or of Graduate calibre, ideally with a further engineering qualification, hands-on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
2. Demonstrable track record of achieving results/managing change.
3. Strong operational grounding within a complex fast-moving manufacturing environment.
4. Operated and familiar with implementation of the principles of World Class Manufacturing environments/Continuous Improvement methodologies.
5. Track record of leadership in the planning and subsequent implementation of capital investment in production facilities.
6. Experience of delivering results against financial targets, service levels, and safety standards.
7. Good working knowledge of operating systems such as SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
9. Experience of managing people and dealing with Trade Unions.
10. Experience of operating utilities plant and project management.
11. Practical electrical engineering experience including legislation - Preferable.
12. Previous experience of control engineering preferable.
