We are the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Designer with high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.
Being part of the PPP Team offers a unique opportunity to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety and delivery solutions in one of the most complex industrial sites in the UK if not the world. We are looking for people who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges.
As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be part of a team working on The Sludge Handling and Export Plant (SH&EP) which will treat sludge, originating from one of the highest hazard facilities at Sellafield, into a form suitable for long-term storage and disposal. SH&EP is currently in the early stages of project development.
The project involves both 'wet process' and mechanical handling/movement systems. The facility design needs to achieve high plant availability, so the application of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles is key. Challenges associated with the facility location drive the requirement for modularised build techniques and Modern Methods of Construction. As a new facility, sustainability features highly within the design considerations.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Designer to produce design deliverables that provide a safe, fit for purpose and fully integrated solution which meets specified requirements, including validation and verification, and that preserve the design intent and align with the plant configuration, as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with and assist other Senior Mechanical & Electrical Engineers together with other members of a multidiscipline design team.
2. Produce estimates and programmes for input to projects.
3. Liaise with clients and other design disciplines, attending internal and external meetings.
4. Produce briefs, specifications, and take a role in the review and checking of design drawings.
5. Write technical reports and produce detailed calculations.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Qualification to HNC Standard as a minimum in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience and knowledge.
2. Knowledge of Autodesk Products (Autocad, Inventor, RECAP) plus other 3D systems.
3. Competent working within standards and procedures (BS 8888).
4. Knowledge and experience of UK regulations is a benefit, i.e. LOLER, Machinery Directive, CDM.
5. Input to Designer Risk Assessments (DRAs) and Outline Installation Method Statements (OIMS).
6. Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
We'll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed - today and into tomorrow. We offer an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

In addition to the benefits you'd expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.
