Lead Medicines Value and Biologics Pharmacist

To plan, set up, and chair the Trust's Medicines Value Group (MVG), ensuring the cost-effective use of biologic medicines and coordinating the savings plan on biologics and other high-cost drugs.
To support the Medicines Management and Therapeutics Committee (MMTC) Chair in managing the Trust formulary, particularly for high-cost medicines, including reviewing and approving one-off requests for biologics and other non-formulary medicines.
To work closely with medical, pharmacy, and nursing colleagues to promote best value in the use of high-cost drugs (HCD), focusing on biologic medicines.
To lead the implementation of cost savings initiatives related to biologics and identify savings opportunities, establishing a program of projects to achieve these savings.
To manage other members of the Best Value Medicines Team and collaborate with the Trust's Medicines Effectiveness Team to achieve the Trust's Medicines Optimisation strategy.
To work with the OUH Medicines homecare team to optimize homecare use for biologics and other high-cost medicines.
To attend and/or provide information for appropriate prescribing committee meetings.
Main Duties of the Job
To conduct regular horizon scans to identify savings opportunities through the optimal introduction of best-value biologic and other high-cost medicines.
To liaise with the regional procurement pharmacist to ensure optimal timing for introducing biosimilars.
To estimate or forecast potential savings from new biologics.
To lead liaison with manufacturers and relevant clinicians to ensure engagement with savings on biologics.
To engage with clinic colleagues to identify necessary information, resources, and tools.
To liaise with the pharmacy purchasing team and homecare teams to ensure stock levels are prepared for switches.
To play a central role within the OUHFT Medicines Effectiveness team in implementing new biosimilar HCDs.
To ensure operational processes are followed for commissioning requirements related to reimbursement of individual medicines.
To support clinical pharmacists and team leaders in understanding and implementing biosimilar switches.
To work with the Medicines Effectiveness team to ensure timely horizon scanning.
To support the management of schemes and services to ensure safe patient access to HCDs.
To build regional links with other pharmacists and technicians to share best practices.

Policy & Service Development
To conduct horizon scans for savings opportunities through the optimal introduction of best-value biologics.
To liaise with the regional procurement pharmacist for optimal timing of biosimilar introductions.

To ensure operational processes for commissioning requirements are followed.
To support clinical pharmacists in biosimilar switches.
To assist in monitoring savings against the HCD plan.
To ensure HCDs are managed according to commissioning principles.
To lead on biosimilar therapeutics substitution initiatives.
To work with Finance to support remuneration for PbR-excluded drugs.
To maintain and update a database of all patients prescribed HCDs.
To compile expenditure and usage reports as needed.
To keep abreast of benchmarking tools for medicines optimisation.
To work with the electronic prescribing team for biologics prescribing tracking.
To liaise with Finance and Contracts for reclaimable HCD expenditure.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications, and Training
* Degree in Pharmacy (Masters) or equivalent
* Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Post-Graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent experience
* Experience as a clinical pharmacist at a high level in various clinical areas
* Proven experience working strategically with senior clinicians and managers
* Experience managing teams
* Experience in formulary development and management
* Good information technology skills
* Experience implementing QIPP or other cost reduction programmes

Salary: £62,215 to £72,293 a year (per annum pro rata)
