A good general Paediatric and Neonatal background is the priority and practical skills are essential. All consultants are resident on call at night with tier 1 doctor and daytime activity is adjusted thus providing time off during the week. Job plans can be adjusted to offer days off in the week which support individual requests for particular days off within the working week. Resident consultant-delivered care operates successfully in our department and we have excellent consultant staff retention. Main duties of the job General Paediatric Consultant (Endocrinology and Diabetes) A good general Paediatric and Neonatal background is the priority and practical skills are essential. Other special interests to complement the team are welcomed and the opportunity exists for on-the-job development of special interests. To enable the delivery of this style of care consultants are resident on call at night. Evening and weekend resident cover is supported by the three middle grade doctors. The resident nature of the on call provides for substantial time off during the week because daytime activity is adjusted accordingly - detailed in the example work schedule below.
