Civil Design Engineer (wastewater & stormwater)
Our client is currently looking to recruit a Civil Design Engineer to be based primarily in our Leeds office. They will join a growing multi-disciplinary design team who are focused on doing temporary and permanent engineering design for work and are directly delivering for AMP8 frameworks including the stormwater alliance.
They are looking for:
1. 2x candidates with an engineering degree and 1 – 3 years of site and/or design experience on civil engineering projects, ideally within the water industry.
2. 1x candidate with 3 – 5 years of experience, including design of temporary works and reinforced concrete structures.
Their day-to-day responsibilities will include:
1. Completing all aspects of Civil engineering design for projects: Briefs, calculations, reviews of other’s designs, risk assessments, drawings, etc.
2. Co-ordinating with the CAD Team to create and review drawings/models of their designs.
3. Co-ordinating with site delivery teams to get input on constructability and preferred methods of construction.
4. Input into various reviews of designs, such as HAZOPS, ALMs, Stage Gate reviews.
5. Completing geotechnical reports and arranging ground investigation works for projects.
6. Completing site visits to discuss works and preferred techniques with operatives, review designs and installation, and receive feedback on how to improve future designs.
They will be expecting the successful candidate to regularly visit sites during the construction phase of the projects. Although variable to suit the needs of the work, we would expect the split to be typically 3 days in the office and 2 days on site per week. All sites will be within Yorkshire water’s area of operation, and reasonable travel expenses to the site location will be covered through expenses.
They are looking for candidates who:
1. Have experience of using AUTOCAD for 2D sketching.
2. Have experience using Finite element analysis software (any type).
3. Be proficient at the use of Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
4. Have a good use of Design standards, principles of designs, and application of the Eurocodes / British Standards to their work.
5. Be familiar with Geotechnical design.
6. Be familiar with reinforced concrete design.
7. Be familiar with temporary works design.
8. Have a full UK driving license, and are happy to travel/have their own transport for site visits within the Yorkshire Water area of operation.
The successful candidate will also:
1. Have good written and verbal communication skills, so that they can explain their work to different groups of people such as clients, operatives on site, and project management teams.
2. Be self-motivated and driven.
3. Have a good attention to detail and be thorough with their work.
4. Be well organised and capable of multi-tasking (working on different projects at the same time).
For successful candidates we’re offering the following package:
1. Salaries competitive and depending on experience.
2. Start date: Flexible depending on candidate notice period.
3. Hours: Your working week will be Monday to Friday and working hours are as determined by work location. Your normal working week will be 45 hours, including 1 hour of rest breaks each day. However you are expected to be co-operative in working outside these hours if necessary.
4. Mileage for travel to sites other than the office, paid at 45p/mile (for the first 10k miles per year).
5. Pension: 5% employee, company matched 3%.
6. Annual leave: 27 days (excluding bank holidays) per year. Noting that 7 days leave is required to be retained for the 2 week construction industry Christmas holiday.
They are able to sponsor work visas for the right candidate; however, payment for the visa etc. will not be provided by the company.
