Salary: circa £50,000 - £70,000 per annum

Job Overview:
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Metallurgist / Engineering Manager to join a market leading precision manufacturing company in Kent. The ideal candidate will report to the General Manager and will join a team working within the foundry industry manufacturing castings for heavily regulated industries.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Minimum of degree level qualification in Metallurgy / Materials Science.
2. Working knowledge and experience in Aluminium alloys (e.g., alloy composition, grain refining, degassing, fluxing).
3. Working knowledge and experience in Magnesium alloys (e.g., alloy composition, grain refining, degassing, fluxing).
4. Experience in sand foundry processes, particularly precision sand casting utilizing 3-part resin systems and cold box core making.
5. Monitor sand properties to maintain production of high-quality castings.
6. Understanding of Foundry Methoding as applied to light alloy castings.
7. Interpretation of data from material testing results and inspection data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
8. Application of special processes relevant to the manufacture of light alloy castings including:
1. Weld Repair
2. Heat Treatment
3. Chemical Processing
4. Dye Penetrant Inspection
5. Radiography
9. Metallurgical investigations, defect investigation, preparing castings, and extracting samples for material investigation.
10. Preparation of metallurgical reports.
11. Carry out material analysis with an understanding of the operation of optical emission spectrometer.
12. Principles of material testing, specifically room temperature tensile testing and Brinell hardness testing.
13. Ability to interpret customer requirements as communicated through drawings, CAD, and specifications, and convert these into operating instructions, inspection plans, and production methods.
14. Ability to discuss metallurgical issues with customers in areas such as defect analysis and potential warranty returns.
Other Benefits:
1. Holidays: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (The company elects to be closed for normal business over the Christmas period, totaling 6 days, of which 3 are from normal holiday entitlement and 3 from statutory entitlement).
2. Pension: 5%-3%.
