The role You will take on a leadership role within the programme on Mendelian randomization at the MRC Integrative epidemiology unit (IEU). The programme aims to improve causal inference, focusing on methodology and application in five key work packages: understanding genetic architecture, leveraging family-based genetic analyses, developing lifecourse genetics resources and methods, causal inference of molecular phenotypes, and causal inference of disease progression phenotypes. You will join the programme’s core team comprising two co-leads (George Davey Smith and Gibran Hemani) and several researchers at various career stages. Within Bristol we collaborate closely with the six other programmes within the IEU and also work closely with the CRUK Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme, the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and the OpenGWAS team. Our programme develops methods and solutions for causal inference to serve critical epidemiological and population health questions. Potential interview date: 15/11/2024 What will you be doing? You will lead on the delivery of one of the key work packages within the programme. You will have be encouraged to contribute towards the forward vision of the programme’s activities and you will be supported to develop your own independence through funding applications on a timescale that suits your trajectory. Where appropriate you will have line management responsibilities for earlier career researchers working in your area. You should apply if You will have extensive research experience in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, bioinformatics or a related quantitative discipline. You will have a firm grasp of Mendelian randomization, evidenced by a good track record of relevant publications. You will have strong statistical, data management, computational skills and writing skills. You will be a good team worker with an interest in contributing and driving larger collaborative projects.
