Shenandoah University is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Counseling Services & Wellness Outreach Services. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester Virginia.
The position provides individual and group counseling to Shenandoah University students, outreach and consultation and treatment in the following areas: crisis intervention, brief therapy, working with diverse populations, sexual assault, mood disorders, and/or self-injury. The Assistant Director of Counseling Services and Wellness Outreach Services assists the Director of Counseling, Executive Director of Wellness and counseling leadership team in implementing policies, procedures, and clinical delivery systems. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Counseling Services.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the administration, implementation, and ongoing assessment of counseling and wellness services and serve in senior leadership capacities as needed and directed by the Director of Counseling and Executive Director of Wellness.
2. Provide individual and group counseling for students with personal or educational concerns.
3. Conduct case management activities, including case notes, screening, and intake documentation, client treatment planning, and outside-of-session client contact.
4. Provide vision and serve in leadership oversight for group counseling offerings and specialized treatment programming.
5. Serve as a liaison to Athletics, Department of Psychology, Health Professions and student prevention groups for mental health.
6. Develop satellite campus service offerings and scheduling.
7. Develop and evaluate psycho-educational programs to various student groups and community members as well as coordinate outreach activities for the counseling department.
8. Plan and implement training seminars and workshops to address preventative and developmental needs of students with mental health and wellness.
9. Provide assistance to general divisional or institutional goals and, when appropriate, to other departments. When needed, work with Disability Learning Resource Center to review documentation for reasonable accommodations for students to provide coaching or other specified educational services as needed.
10. Serve on divisional, institutional and community-wide committees such as Orientation, Assessment Task Force, and Care Team as needed.
11. Consult with faculty, staff, and other personnel about the development, career and mental health needs of students and work cooperatively with them for the benefit of students and the institution.
12. Supervise the work study students for counseling services.
13. Make referrals to community resources.
14. Actively engage in student affairs and college health professional activities and organizations such as NASPA and ACHA, etc.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling, Executive Director of Wellness or Dean of Students.
