This is a temporary Occupational Therapist role at Aberbeeg Hospital, a low secure service for men with mental illness. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting health and independence by delivering high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions, while also providing clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
As an Occupational Therapist at Aberbeeg Hospital, you will be instrumental in demonstrating highly specialist expertise and skills in areas such as occupational engagement, environmental adaptation, and the development and maintenance of skills needed for meaningful participation. You will manage a designated caseload, completing assessments, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills, receive support from a regional network of healthcare professionals, and participate in numerous career development opportunities.
Job responsibilities
Your responsibilities as an Occupational Therapist will include:
* Communicating effectively with a range of clinicians, managers, directors, associate directors, people who access services, carers/supporters/family members, stakeholders and agencies.
* Providing compassionate and effective leadership to junior staff including support staff and assistants.
* Ensuring the delivery of occupational therapy student placements.
* Supporting the completion of appraisals/personal development plans with junior staff.
* Being responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.
To be a Successful Occupational Therapist you will need:
* Occupational Therapy profession qualification.
* Extensive and relevant post qualification clinical experience with adults who have complex needs.
* Extensive experience of applying occupational frames of reference and approaches.
* Demonstrated evidence of highly effective clinical reasoning skills.
* Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models.
* Knowledge of how to work with individuals with mental illness.

You will be working at Aberbeeg Hospital, a low secure service for men which aims to ensure that each service user receives an individualised formulation of needs, to ensure that the care and treatment delivered is appropriate. Aberbeeg is located within the boundaries of the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, set in 11.5 acres of land with beautiful views of the Welsh countryside.
Aberbeeg uses a twelve week therapeutic planning model alongside the “Safewards” model of care. This means that service users have a therapeutic timetable devised collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team using meaningful and smart goals for a twelve week period. Following this, the timetable is reviewed and changed to reflect the development and achievements made.
