An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to join our team in Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
This post will be split between our sites in Ormskirk and St Helens with clinical sessions in both hospitals.
The departments operate as spokes of the Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Hub based in Aintree who provide the Service's consultants.
The post holder will be professionally accountable to the clinical lead in Maxillofacial Surgery (Hub Consultant) and will report to the Divisional Director for Surgery.
This post will support the delivery of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service by conducting outpatient clinics (including the management of 2ww referrals) and any required treatments within the oral surgery minor operating suite.
Applicants must have a Registerable Dental qualification and Full registration with the General Dental Council. MFDS /MJDFS or equivalent, with significant experience as a LAS or equivalent in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Registration as a Specialist in Oral Surgery with the General Dental Council or a formal qualification in conscious sedation are all desirable but not essential.

The job plan will be subject to change with the agreement of the post holder, together with the Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and the Head of Department.
The post holder will supervise, providing support and collaboration with other practitioners, as agreed to be appropriate.
So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the designated duties of the post holder, he/she should undertake to deputise, from time to time, for absent colleagues.
The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in unforeseen emergencies/circumstances, being both flexible and available for such irregular commitments, outside normal duties, as are essential for continuity of patient care. This post has no time tabled on-call commitments.
Clinical Responsibilities & Professional Responsibilities
There will be by necessity considerable flexibility within the job plan to meet the changing demands of the service.
When sessions coincide with regional audit activity the post holder would be expected to attend this as part of their supporting professional activity.

Qualifications
Essential
* BDS or IQE
* Have a full GMC and have a registerable dental qualification or be GDC registered
Desirable
* Specialist Register in Oral Surgery
* Postgraduate qualification e.g. MFDS, MSurg Dent, MFGDS Diploma in Conscious sedation
Experience
Essential
* At least 5 years post graduate experience
* Significant LAS Experience

* Previous experience at Staff Grade Level
Skills
Essential
* Able to see and assess patients presenting for dentoavleolar surgery facial pain, common oral medicine problems, maxillofacial trauma, and oral cancer, to arrange appropriate forward referral to the Regional Maxillofacial Unit for more complex conditions
* To have an understanding of the management structure within the department, hospital and local clinical networks
* High personal clinical standards, to be familiar with and adhere to the professional standards as laid out by published guidance of the GDC and GMC and Royal Colleges
* A personal commitment to maintaining CPD/CME requirements
Desirable
* Extensive experience in performing Minor Oral surgical procedures under local anesthetic +/- sedation and in the outpatient setting with minimal supervision
* Some experience of teaching
* To have completed and presented Clinical audits
* Previous experience of managerial duties e.g. running on call rota's, BDA representative etc.
